Adobe AI video generator goes live

Adobe Firefly has officially launched its AI video generation model, now available to paying users via the newly redesigned Firefly web app. 

This move places Adobe among the few tech giants offering AI video tools to the public, following OpenAI’s Sora, which debuted last December. 

Unlike competitors, Adobe emphasizes that Firefly-generated content is commercially safe, allowing users to integrate it into professional projects without legal concerns.

Adobe AI Video Generator allows users to create high-quality 5-second 1080p videos without audio. Users can generate videos through text prompts or image-to-video features. 

The model also provides extensive customization options, including shot size (close-up, widescreen), camera angles, motion effects (zoom, tilt, etc.), and aspect ratio adjustments.

Although Firefly videos lack native audio, Adobe has introduced a separate AI-powered translation tool to translate speech into over 20 languages while retaining the speaker’s natural voice. 

This integration makes the AI tool particularly valuable for global content creators.

A cost-saving solution for content creators

Adobe envisions its AI video editing tools as a game-changer for professionals, potentially reducing expensive production costs. 

Users can generate aerial footage without drones, create dynamic visuals without elaborate setups, and modify existing footage with AI-powered scene expansion.

For video editors, Firefly integrates seamlessly with Premiere Pro. A beta feature allows users to export a frame into Firefly to generate a related video, making content generation smoother. 

The ‘Generative Extend’ tool in Premiere Pro also enables editors to extend videos by up to 2 seconds, providing additional flexibility for creative projects.

Firefly vs. Sora: The AI video showdown
